I have been involved in sports for nearly all of my life. I played local club Football from the age of 12, as well as outdoor cricket during the summer. For a few years I was involved in high level competition Indoor Cricket. At school I competed in as many sports as possible, from cross country running to lawn bowls. For me, sports and sporting activities was just a natural part of my life.
As I came closer to retiring from competitive team sports, I decided to become a personal trainer.
This way I was able to continue my exercising regime, but also get paid for something I was extremely passionate about. This gave me a better understanding of the human body, introduced me to new ways of getting results for my clients and educating me to be the best PT I could be.
I was introduced to CrossFit by a fellow PT. To be completely honest, at first I had my doubts.
“Exercise for time and reps, that doesn’t sound like something I would be interested in” was my simple comment.
“Try it” was the reply.
So a group of us booked in for 1 session per week, for a 6 week workshop (at CrossFit Victoria). What an eye opener that was. Instantly I was hooked. Why did I not discover this when playing sport. I have no doubt that I would have been far more superior as an athlete than what I was at the time.
My personal training process and programming completely changed to embrace the CrossFit methodology.
I went on to complete the CrossFit Level 1 certification as well as a number of other courses to enhance my knowledge of the CrossFit movements. It was just a matter of time before I would then focus all of my energy into creating and running my own box.
