What is CrossFit?

Coach Greg Glassman, founder and CEO of CrossFit, defines it as: "Constantly Varied, Functional Movements performed at High Intensity"

So what does that mean

Constantly Varied: Not repeating the same thing over and over again.

Functional Movements: Natural and Primal movement and motions of the human body. The way we are meant to move.

High Intensity: A workload that requires maximal effort.

CrossFit uses 3 fundamental areas of training. Metcon (Metabolic Conditioning or Cardio), Gymnastics and Olympic Lifting. It uses a combination of 1, 2 or 3 of these elements and workouts are varied by changing and altering the weight, repetitions and round requirements. This creates thousands of different workouts and will stop repetitive and often boring workouts from limiting you achieving your goals.

CrossFit is designed, through years of research, to increase anyone’s general fitness. Fitness can be summarized into 10 categories:

  • Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance
  • Stamina
  • Strength
  • Flexibility
  • Speed
  • Power
  • Co-Ordination
  • Balance
  • Agility
  • Accuracy
